I am an emerging scholar, nurse, writer, and actress. I am boundlessly creative and staunchly systematic at the same time. What ties my seemingly dichotomous existence together is my ongoing pursuit to describe the human experience in ways that challenge stereotypes, provoke understanding, and inspire individual and social growth.
This pursuit reaches beyond the boundaries of any one prescribed career trajectory. As an emerging scholar, I am driven by the responsibility to generate science that extends the lives of people who are dying prematurely, and improves the lives of people who are faced with debilitating health outcomes for no good reason at all. As a nurse, I am moved by my need to look people in their eyes, grab their hands, and speak life into their being regardless of how much longer they’ll be on this earth. As both a writer and actress, I am compelled to embody the human experience and reflect it back to the masses as a tool for breaking down social barriers and providing opportunities for personal change.
After appearing in television shows, commercials, and theatre…and, after writing many pieces about lifestyle topics prior to studying to become a nurse…I came to understand that what I’m about runs deeper than simply being seen. I recognized that I have something meaningful to contribute to this world of ours. As I continue to move forward as both an artist and scientist, I ‘get’ that my artistic and scientific contributions will continue
to deepen and dance with one another. They would suffer in isolation.
